Learning Life Skills
Below are some of the Learning Life Skills activities facilitated by BigDog Support services.
All of our activities are easily modified for all levels of ability.
LiveBig Life Skills
LiveBig is our Capacity Building program. There are lots of fun activities to be involved in, including vocational skills development, emotional intelligence training and hygiene-focused activities. We deliver this skills training each week using different learning methodologies to ensure we keep our participants engaged. Sometimes we will go out for excursions, watch short videos, do a written activity or work together to tackle life issues as a group.
General Shopping
Head out to a local supermarket with a list of goodies we need for the centre, and practice buying simple stationery and groceries. Learn about handling money and interacting with a diverse range of store workers successfully.
Cook and Share
This weekly activity focuses on learning to undertake meal preparation and cooking a basic meal. You will be participating in this activity as a group and this involves researching a suitable recipe, shopping for ingredients, cooking, cleaning up and most importantly remembering to bring along a container or dish to take your prepared meal home in to enjoy with the rest of your household. This activity requires a minimum of 2 hours to undertake.
Queens Park Markets
Show and sell your craft items, start a small business or volunteer in this community event on the 3rd Sunday of every month.
Magazine Reporter
Write your story, write about things that interest you or interview community people for WhatsUp in Disability Magazine.
